党坚持独立自主的和平外交政策，倡导和坚持和平共处五项原则，坚定维护国家独立、主权、尊严，支持和援助世界被压迫民族解放事业、新独立国家建设事业和各国人民正义斗争，反对帝国主义、霸权主义、殖民主义、种族主义，彻底结束了旧中国的屈辱外交。

The Party adhered to an independent foreign policy of peace, championed and upheld the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and firmly defended China’s independence, sovereignty, and dignity. It provided support and assistance for other oppressed nations in seeking liberation, for newly independent countries in their pursuit of development, and for various peoples as they put up just struggles, and stood opposed to imperialism, hegemonism, colonialism, and racism. The humiliating diplomacy of the old China was put to an end.

改革开放以后，党坚持独立自主的和平外交政策，为我国发展营造了良好外部环境，为人类进步事业作出重大贡献。

Since the launch of reform and opening up, the Party has remained committed to an independent foreign policy of peace, fostered an external environment conducive to China’s development, and made significant contributions to human progress.

4. Staying independent

党历来坚持独立自主开拓前进道路，坚持把国家和民族发展放在自己力量的基点上，坚持中国的事情必须由中国人民自己作主张、自己来处理。人类历史上没有一个民族、一个国家可以通过依赖外部力量、照搬外国模式、跟在他人后面亦步亦趋实现强大和振兴。那样做的结果，不是必然遭遇失败，就是必然成为他人的附庸。

The Party has always followed an independent path as it has pressed forward, stressing reliance on our own efforts to drive the nation’s development, and maintaining that China’s affairs must be decided and run by the Chinese people themselves. Throughout human history, no nation or country has ever become strong and prosperous by relying on external forces, indiscriminately copying the models of other countries, or blindly following in others’ footsteps. Those who have attempted to do so have either suffered inevitable defeat or been reduced to vassals of others.

只要我们坚持独立自主、自力更生，既虚心学习借鉴国外的有益经验，又坚定民族自尊心和自信心，不信邪、不怕压，就一定能够把中国发展进步的命运始终牢牢掌握在自己手中。

As long as we maintain independence and self-reliance, bolster our people’s sense of national dignity and self-confidence while drawing on the useful experience of other countries, and refuse to be taken in by fallacies or to bend in the face of pressure, we will be able to keep the fate of China’s development and progress firmly in our own hands.

郭嘉昆：中国始终坚持独立自主的和平外交政策。我们在相互尊重、平等相待的基础上，同各国开展友好交往，始终致力于做积极、稳定、向善的力量。我们无意也不会与任何国家比拼影响力。我们始终认为，无论国际形势如何变化，维护以联合国为核心的国际体系、以国际法为基础的国际秩序、以《联合国宪章》宗旨和原则为基础的国际关系基本准则，符合国际社会各方共同利益。

Guo Jiakun: China follows an independent foreign policy of peace. We conduct friendly exchanges with other countries based on mutual respect and equality and stay committed to acting as a positive and stable force for good. We have no intention and will not compete for influence with any country. We always maintain that no matter how the international landscape may evolve, what serves the common interests of all parties in the international community is that we uphold the international system with the UN at its core, the international order based on international law, and the basic norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

郭嘉昆：我不了解你提到的具体情况。中墨经贸合作是互利共赢的，合作成果惠及彼此人民。中方始终倡导普惠包容的经济全球化，反对各种形式的单边主义、保护主义和歧视性、排他性措施。我们坚决反对在他人胁迫下以各种名目对华设限、损害中方正当权益。相信有关国家将坚持独立自主，妥善处理有关问题。

Guo Jiakun: I’m not familiar with the specifics. China-Mexico economic and trade cooperation is mutually beneficial and its fruits benefit the two peoples. China advocates a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization and opposes unilateralism and protectionism in any form and discriminatory and exclusive measures. We also firmly oppose setting restrictions on China and undermining China’s legitimate rights and interests with all kinds of excuses under the coercion of others. We believe that relevant countries will uphold independence and properly handle relevant issues.

林剑：有关报告充斥着冷战思维，鼓噪大国对抗，渲染“中国威胁”，实质上是为了遏制打压中国，中方坚决反对。我要强调，中国坚持独立自主的和平外交政策，始终致力于做积极、稳定、向善的力量，无意也不会与任何国家比拼影响力。中方始终按照相互尊重、和平共处、合作共赢的原则看待和处理中美关系，从来不搞恶性竞争和大国对抗，无意取代谁、挑战谁。中方敦促美方有关人士树立正确对华认知，客观、理性地看待中国和中美关系，停止攻击抹黑和遏制打压，多做有益于中美关系稳定、健康、可持续发展的事。

Lin Jian: The report is filled with Cold War thinking and peddles major country confrontation and the false narrative of “China threat”. The real aim of the report is to go after and suppress China. China firmly opposes that. Let me stress that China follows an independent foreign policy of peace and always acts as a positive and stable force for good. China has no intention to and will not engage in a contest with any country for influence. China follows the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation in viewing and handling its relations with the U.S. We never engage in malicious competition or major country confrontation, and have no intention to supplant or challenge others.
