The crucial role of energy and food security cooperation should be harnessed. BRICS countries consist of major importers and exporters of commodities such as oil, wheat and soybean. We must oppose politicization and weaponization of energy and food security issues. We should explore the establishment of a more stable supply and demand system among BRICS countries and ensure secure and smooth functioning of global supply and industrial chains. We need to make the global energy system cleaner and more sustainable.

中美经贸合作的本质是互利共赢。如果仅是一方受益，一方“吃亏”，不可能走到今天。整天把“吃亏”挂嘴上，追求绝对的对等贸易，违背了基本的经济常识，也低估了美国企业和消费者的判断力。无论美方如何包装，都掩盖不了将经贸问题政治化、武器化，实施对华遏制打压的企图。美方对全世界发起的贸易战打了这么多年，贸易逆差不降反升，去年仍高居9184亿美元。关税战也好，贸易战也罢，都是以损人开始，以害己告终。美方应该吸取教训，改弦易辙。

China-U.S. trade and economic ties benefit both sides. If one had been ripping the other off, there is no way the ties would have come this far as we see today. To call the economic ties a “rip-off” and pursue absolute reciprocity in trade goes against the most basic economic common sense and those who do so are underestimating the judgement of U.S. companies and consumers. No matter what the purported rationale is, it cannot hide the U.S.’s aim of politicizing and weaponizing trade issues to contain and go after China. It’s been years and years since the U.S. initiated the trade war against the rest of the world, yet it has not stopped U.S. trade deficit from going up and reaching US$918.4 billion last year. Whether it’s a tariff war or a trade war, they invariably start by hurting others before coming back to hurt the one who launched it. It’s time for the U.S. to learn its lesson and end this wrong practice. 

贸易战、关税战没有赢家。美方将经贸问题政治化、武器化，以芬太尼为借口对华加征关税，对中美正常经贸投资合作人为设障，损害的是美国自身经济利益和国际信誉。中方愿同美方在平等和相互尊重的基础上通过对话磋商解决各自关切，同时将采取一切必要措施维护自身正当权益。

Trade and tariff wars have no winners. The U.S.’s attempts to politicize and weaponize trade and economic issues, levy tariff hikes on Chinese imports under the pretext of fentanyl, and create blocks to its normal trade, investment and economic cooperation with China will only harm its own economic interests and international credibility. China stands ready to work with the U.S. to address each other’s concerns through dialogue and consultation on the basis of equality and mutual respect. In the meanwhile, we will take all measures necessary to safeguard our legitimate rights and interests.

郭嘉昆：针对近期拜登政府密集出台涉华经贸科技限制举措，中国商务部已经阐明严正立场，中方已向美方提出严正交涉。美方泛化国家安全概念，将经贸科技问题政治化、武器化、工具化，动辄挥舞制裁大棒，严重侵害中国等国企业正当权益，严重破坏市场规则和国际经贸秩序，严重干扰全球产供链稳定，损害了包括美国企业在内全球各国企业共同利益。这种做法是典型的经济胁迫和霸道霸凌，中方对此强烈不满，坚决反对。

Guo Jiakun: On the recent flurry of trade and tech regulations aimed at China from the Biden administration, the Ministry of Commerce has made clear China’s position. And China has lodged strong protests with the US. The US keeps overstretching the concept of national security, politicizing and weaponizing trade and tech issues, and using sanctions as a go-to tool. This seriously violates the legitimate rights and interests of companies from countries around the world, including China. This also jeopardizes market rules and the international trade order, destabilizes global industrial and supply chains, and undermines the common interests of US and other companies globally. What the US does is typical economic coercion and bullying. China deplores it and firmly opposes it.
