The Vision of Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind carries forward the same spirit of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Both are rooted in traditional Chinese values such as “Be kind to your neighbor,” “Seek amity through integrity,” and “Promote harmony among all nations.” Both attest to China’s diplomatic tenets of self-confidence, self-reliance, justice, protection of the disadvantaged, and benevolence. Both demonstrate the broad vision of the Communist Party of China to contribute more to humanity. Both manifest China’s firm resolve to follow the path of peaceful development. The Vision of Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind is the most effective move to sustain, promote and upgrade the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in the new circumstances.

郭嘉昆：作为柬埔寨和泰国的友邻和朋友，中方高度关注当前柬泰边境事态，对冲突造成柬、泰两国民众伤亡深感痛心并表示诚挚慰问。柬埔寨和泰国是搬不走的邻居，“亲仁善邻，国之宝也”。当务之急是停火止战、保护平民。希望双方从维护两国边境和平稳定与两国人民利益出发，保持最大程度克制，采取一切有利于实现停火的措施，尽快实现降温缓局。

Guo Jiakun: As neighbors and friends of both countries, China follows closely the current developments along the border of Cambodia and Thailand. We are deeply saddened by the casualties inflicted on both sides and express heartfelt sympathies. Cambodia and Thailand are and will always be neighbors. Amity and good-neighborliness are invaluable to a country. The top priority now is to stop the fighting and protect civilians. We hope the two sides will, in light of safeguarding peace and stability of the border areas and the interests of the peoples, exercise maximum restraint, take all measures conducive to realizing a ceasefire, and deescalate as soon as possible.

王毅外长主持外长会议，就上合组织未来发展提出五点建议：一是不忘初心，弘扬“上海精神”；二是安危共担，夯实安全基石；三是互利共赢，驱动发展引擎；四是亲仁善邻，共建美好家园；五是坚守正道，捍卫公平正义。会后，王毅外长与上合组织秘书长叶尔梅克巴耶夫共见记者，宣布上合组织峰会将于8月31日至9月1日在天津举办。与会各方高度评价中方担任轮值主席国的出色工作和取得的积极成果，充分肯定上合组织重要作用，表示愿同中方协调配合，共同办好天津峰会。

Foreign Minister Wang Yi chaired the meeting and made a five-point proposal for the future development of the SCO: first, staying true to SCO’s founding mission and carrying forward the “Shanghai Spirit”; second, sharing responsibility and laying a solid foundation for security; third, seeking mutual benefit and win-win results and creating engines for development; fourth, upholding amity and good neighborliness and building a beautiful homeland; fifth, staying the course and defending fairness and justice. When jointly meeting the press with SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev after the meeting, Foreign Minister Wang announced that the SCO summit will be held in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1. Participants spoke highly of China’s work as the rotating chair of the SCO, commended the important role of the SCO and expressed their readiness to cooperate and coordinate with China to make the SCO Tianjin summit a full success.

我们要用好“东方智慧”。亚洲孕育了众多古老文明，在长期实践中形成了独到的处世思辨。当我们理解了“孤掌难鸣，众擎易举”，面对日益增多的风险挑战时，就会更加坚定地选择团结协作。当我们理解了“海纳百川，有容乃大”，就能看透保护主义和单边主义没有出路，开放包容才是大道正途。当我们理解了“亲仁善邻，国之宝也”，对待国与国间的分歧、矛盾或争端，就会更多以对话促理解、以友善促和睦。这些东方智慧博大精深，为我们共迎挑战、共促发展提供着源源不断的营养和力量。

We need to better apply the Oriental Wisdom. Asia is home to a galaxy of ancient civilizations. Through centuries of practice, we have developed distinctive insights for navigating world affairs. Having learned that one hand cannot clap while many hands make light work, we are more steadfast in choosing unity and cooperation in the face of growing risks and challenges; having learned that the ocean is vast because it admits all rivers, we are able to see clearly that protectionism and unilateralism lead nowhere while openness and inclusiveness are the right path; having learned that amity and good-neighborliness are invaluable to a country, we are more proactive in promoting understanding and harmony through dialogue and goodwill to address differences, disagreements and conflicts between countries. Such profound Oriental Wisdom nourishes us and empowers us to tackle challenges and pursue development together.
