Wang Wenbin China adheres to the fundamental national policy of opening up. Foreign media enjoy an open reporting environment in China, with full freedom in covering the Beijing Winter Olympics and relevant matters. As a country with rule of law, China has promulgated the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on News Coverage by Permanent Offices of Foreign Media Organizations and Foreign Journalists where clear stipulations are made to protect the legitimate rights and interests of foreign journalists.

The anti-epidemic policies are formulated by the Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (BOCOG) in concert with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC). We have released two editions of the Beijing 2022 Playbooks and put in place closed-loop management on all relevant personnel to separate them from the public, in order to protect the safety of all people involved in the Games and residents in the host city and ensure a smooth and safe Games to be hosted as scheduled.

To date, more than 2,500 journalists and photographers have submitted application to register for the Games. The grave and complicated pandemic situation has brought about difficulties to the reporting of media organizations. The BOCOG is having discussions with the IOC and the IPC to do its utmost to help journalists overcome these difficulties.

As far as we know, the BOCOG has set up help desk at media work room in the Main Media Center, Zhangjiakou Mountain Press Center and 12 competition venues to receive and handle the reporting applications of accredited media. The BOCOG will work with the IOC to hold daily briefings on the events to provide ample material for reporting. Besides, we will try our best to help journalists do interviews and reporting on the Games with people outside the loop by using technology and via video link.

They all call on the US, the country responsible for the problem, to shoulder responsibilities. Do you have any comment?

Wang Wenbin I’ve noted the statistics. The US is a major factor causing the global refugee and migrant crisis. Its belligerent acts have triggered several waves of refugees. Since 2001, its invasion of other countries has killed more than 800,000 and led to more than 20 million refugees in the invaded countries alone including Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. Wherever the US troops go, they wither livelihood, cause social unrest and trigger displacement.
美国是难移民人权的侵犯者。美国系统性种族歧视根深蒂固，“接纳难民、尊重人权”的承诺不过一句空谈。美国在美墨边境修建隔离墙，滥用武力驱逐难移民，还将难移民长期羁押在条件恶劣的拘留中心，强行推进将难移民父母与儿童拆散的“骨肉分离”政策。新冠肺炎疫情暴发以来，美国内亚非拉裔难移民饱受歧视和仇恨犯罪困扰。
The US violates the human rights of refugees and migrants. Systemic racial discrimination is a deep-seated problem in the country. Its commitment to take in refugees and respect human rights is just an empty slogan. The US builds a wall along its border with Mexico, abuses force to expel refugees and migrants or holds them in detention facilities with poor conditions for long periods of time, where the family separation policy is enforced to tear children away from their parents. Since COVID-19 broke out, refugees and migrants of Asian, African and Latin American descent in the US have suffered greatly from discrimination and hate crimes.
在人权问题上，美国不是什么教师爷，更当不了“判官”，只能坐在被告席上。我们敦促美方停止“人权卫士”的拙劣表演，收起肆意挥舞的“人权大棒”，认真审视并纠正自身在难移民问题上的诸多劣迹和累累罪行。
On the issue of human rights, the US is in no position to lecture or judge others. Its only role is the defendant. We urge the US to stop its clumsy show featuring itself as a human rights defender, stop wantonly wielding the stick of human rights, and earnestly review its poor records and redress its crimes on the issue of refugees and migrants.
