The remarks by relevant officials in the US flagrantly challenge the one-China principle, violate the stipulations of the three China-US Joint Communiqués and US commitment, and send a seriously wrong signal to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. China strongly deplores and firmly opposes this.
台湾问题的真正现状是世界上只有一个中国，台湾是中国的一部分，中华人民共和国政府是代表全中国的唯一合法政府。“台独”势力挟洋自重、“倚美谋独”是当前台海局势紧张的根源。美方一些人“以台制华”，纵容支持民进党当局改变现状，才是助推台海紧张局势升级的症结所在。美台沆瀣一气，不断挑衅玩火，这一趋势十分危险。
The real status quo on the Taiwan question is: there is but one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The root cause of the tensions across the Taiwan Strait is the attempts by the “Taiwan independence” forces to look for US and other foreign support to seek independence. The crux of the escalated tensions is the moves of some Americans to use Taiwan to contain China by condoning and supporting the DPP authorities in changing the status quo. The collusion of these people in the US and Taiwan in making provocations and playing with fire is extremely dangerous.
美方必须清楚，一个中国的历史和法理事实不容挑战，两岸同属一个中国不容改变，14亿中国人民推进祖国和平统一的进程不可阻挡。我们愿以最大诚意、尽最大努力争取和平统一的前景，但如果“台独”分裂势力挑衅逼迫，甚至突破红线，我们将不得不采取断然措施。那些为“台独”势力撑腰壮胆、挑衅一个中国原则的举动终究是螳臂当车，阻挡不了历史前进的步伐。
The US must understand that the historical and legal fact of one-China is not to be challenged, the fact that both sides on the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same China is not to be changed, and the process of the 1.4 billion Chinese people to advance China’s peaceful reunification is not to be held back. We will strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification with utmost sincerity and efforts. That said, should the separatist forces for Taiwan independence provoke us, force our hands or even cross the red line, we will be compelled to take resolute measures. Efforts to support and embolden the “Taiwan independence” forces and challenge the one-China principle will turn out to be like trying to hold back the tide with a broom. They will not stop the progress of history.
