华春莹近段时期以来，美方多名高官针对中国进行无端指责，都是老调重弹，歪曲事实，转移视线，世人其实已看透了这套把戏。我不想一一批驳，今天作个总体回应。

Hua Chunying Recently many US senior officials have been attacking China with groundless criticism. They are merely following a threadbare script to distort facts and deflect attention. The world has seen through their tricks. I won't go through their allegations one by one. The following will be able to cover all of them.

的确，美方一些人出于意识形态偏见，不遗余力把中国渲染成对手甚至敌人，变本加厉地抹黑攻击中国，不择手段地围追堵截中国，把正常人文交流政治化，把经贸科技合作武器化，把“攻击中国”作为解决自己国内政治问题的“万能药”。这些人为了一己政治私利，不惜绑架美国国内民意、不惜绑架中美关系、不惜绑架国际秩序，甚至到了丧失理智、走火入魔的地步。这种饮鸩止渴的短视行为，正在对美国自身和世界造成严重伤害。

Indeed, some in the US, driven by ideological bias, have been sparing no effort to paint China as a rival or even adversary, smear and attack China, and encircle and contain its development. They have been politicizing normal people-to-people and cultural exchange, and weaponizing economic, trade and tech cooperation. Simply put, attacking China is their panacea to deal with every domestic political issue. Galvanized solely by self-interest, they won't even hesitate to hold domestic public opinion, China-US relations and international order hostage. Possessed by such evil, they are on the brink of losing their mind. Their short-sighted act of drinking poison to quench thirst is causing great harm to the US and the world.

中国从来无意挑战或者取代美国，无意与美国全面对抗。我们最关心的是提高本国人民的福祉，最重视的是实现中华民族的复兴，最期待的是世界的和平稳定。燕雀安知鸿鹄之志。那些声称中国想超越美国成为超级大国、声称中国试图推翻现有规则体系的人，显然是以己度人，是对中国战略意图的严重误判和误读。

China never intends to challenge or replace the US, or have full confrontation with it. What we care most about is to improve the livelihood of our people. What we deem as the most important is to realize the renewal of the Chinese nation. And what we hope for most is to maintain peace and stability of the world. The US has underestimated China's noble aspirations. Those claiming that China seeks to "surpass the United States as the world's preeminent superpower" and to "overthrow the rules-based international system" are judging us based on their own pattern. That's serious misjudgment of China's strategic intentions.

当然，中美关系保持稳定发展需要中美双方相向而行，需要双方各自尊重彼此核心利益和重大关切，需要各自尊重国际法和国际规则，需要开展平等的对话协商。中国作为一个独立自主的国家，我们有权利维护自身的主权、安全、发展利益，有权利保卫中国人民艰苦奋斗获得的劳动成果，有权利拒绝任何针对中国的霸凌和不公，有权利反击美方对中国的恶意诽谤和抹黑攻击。

To achieve that goal, China and the US must work in the same direction, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, follow international law and international rules, and engage in equal-footed dialogue and consultation. As an independent country, China has every right to uphold its sovereignty, security and development interests, safeguard the achievements that the Chinese people have made through hard work, reject any bullying and injustice imposed on it, and counter malicious slandering and vilifying attacks by the US.

对于连日来美方在涉华问题上的种种污蔑攻击，我想起苏轼的一句词：莫听穿林打叶声，何妨吟啸且徐行。

In response to the recent smears and criticism against China by Pompeo and other US politicians, the following lines from a poem by Su Shi came to my mind: "Defying the rain hitting the leaves through the woods, I sing and walk ahead at my own pace."
