Zhao Lijian On November 5, the opening ceremony of the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP14) opened in Wuhan under the theme of “Wetlands Action for People and Nature”. President Xi Jinping noted in his address that it is important that we build global consensus on prizing wetlands, advance the global process on wetlands conservation, enhance people’s well-being globally by leveraging the role of wetlands, and scale up wetlands action across the world.
今年是中国加入《湿地公约》30周年。《湿地公约》当前认定的43个国际湿地城市中有13个是中国城市，位居全球第一。中国湿地面积达5635万公顷。中国以4％的湿地，满足了世界五分之一人口对湿地的多种需求。《湿地公约》秘书长蒙巴表示，中国在湿地保护方面展现出强大领导力。中国政府兑现承诺，不断加大湿地保护投入，用实际行动表明对生态系统保护的重视。中国的情况令人振奋。
This year marks the 30th anniversary of China joining the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. China is home to 13 of the 43 international wetland cities accredited under the Ramsar Convention, more than any other country in the world. China now boasts 56.35 million hectares of wetlands. With four percent of the world’s wetlands, China has met the diverse demands of one-fifth of the world’s population for wetlands. As Secretary-General of the Ramsar Convention Musonda Mumba said, China has shown strong leadership in wetland conservation; living up to its commitment, the Chinese government has increased input in wetland conservation, and demonstrated the importance it attaches to ecosystems with concrete actions. “What we’ve seen with the government of China is really absolutely exciting,” she added.
湿地被喻为“地球之肾”，与森林、海洋并称为地球三大生态系统，也是地球上最受威胁的生态系统。共谋湿地保护发展是中国和世界各国共同的课题。昨天，本次缔约方大会部级高级别会议通过“武汉宣言”，该宣言成为又一份凝聚各方共识、展示全球意愿的重要文件。我们相信，本次大会必将成为各国合作推动全球湿地保护的新起点，也将谱写人与自然和谐共生的新篇章。
Known as the “kidneys of the earth”, wetlands are one of the three major ecosystems on the globe, along with forests and oceans. They are also among the most threatened ecosystems in the world. How to protect and develop the wetlands is a shared challenge facing China and other countries across the world. Yesterday, the High-level Ministerial Segment of COP14 adopted the Wuhan Declaration, which is another important document that embodies the consensus of all parties and the will of the world. We believe that this meeting will become a new starting point for international cooperation in advancing global wetland conservation, and will open a new chapter for harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

Dragon TV The fifth China International Import Expo (CIIE) kicked off on November 4. Do you have any comment? Could you share more on the features and significance of the CIIE this year?
赵立坚作为党的二十大之后中国举办的首场重大国际展会，第五届中国国际进口博览会广受各方关注。正如国家主席习近平在开幕式致辞中指出的，进博会已成为中国构建新发展格局的窗口、推动高水平开放的平台、全球共享的国际公共产品。中国将推动各国各方共享中国大市场机遇、共享制度型开放机遇、共享深化国际合作机遇。
Zhao Lijian As the first major international expo held in China after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the fifth CIIE has drawn widespread attention. As President Xi Jinping noted in his address at the opening ceremony, the CIIE has become a showcase of China’s new development paradigm, a platform for high-standard opening up, and a public good for the whole world. China will work with all countries and all parties to share the opportunities in its vast market, the opportunities from its institutional opening up, and the opportunities from deepened international cooperation.
开放是本届进博会的主旋律。本届进博会参展国别广、代表性强。据统计，共有145个国家、地区和国际组织参展，涵盖发达国家、发展中国家，包括一些最不发达国家。尼加拉瓜、吉布提、冰岛等8国首次参与国家展，迎来进博会“首秀”。此外，共有来自127个国家和地区的企业参加企业商业展，包括逾280家世界500强和行业龙头企业。此外，《区域全面经济伙伴关系协定》（RCEP）成员国也都有企业参展，共建“一带一路”国家、上合组织参展国数量也较上届增加。
Openness is the defining feature of this year’s CIIE. It has attracted a large number of participating countries and is broadly representative. Statistics show that the CIIE is participated by a total of 145 countries, regions and international organizations, including developed, developing and some of the least developed countries. Eight countries including Nicaragua, Djibouti and Iceland take part in the country exhibition for the first time this year, making their debut at the CIIE. Besides, businesses from 127 countries and regions attend the business exhibition, including more than 280 industry-leading or the world’s top 500 companies. Exhibitors from RCEP member countries also participate in the CIIE, and the event this year has also attracted exhibitors from more Belt and Road partners and more SCO member states.
本届进博会还设有六大展区，集中展示数百项新产品、新技术、新服务，既有聚焦美好生活的消费品、农产品，也有展现全球领先科技的高精尖医疗器械和技术装备，其中许多是全球首发、亚洲首秀、中国首展。
This CIIE features six exhibition areas, showcasing hundreds of new products, new technologies and new services. They include consumer goods and agricultural products that will make people’s life better, and high-grade, high-precision, advanced medical devices and equipment featuring world-leading science and technology. For many of them, this is their first launch in China, in Asia and in the world.
开放是进博会的魅力所在，也是全球经济复苏发展的希望所在。党的二十大报告明确指出，中国将坚持对外开放的基本国策，坚定奉行互利共赢的开放战略。展望未来，中国开放的大门只会越来越大。让我们共同祝愿本届进博会取得圆满成功。
Openness is what has made the CIIE so attractive. It is also the source of hope for global economic recovery and development. The report to the 20th National Congress of the Party explicitly stated that China is committed to its fundamental national policy of opening to the outside world and pursues a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up.
