Zhao Lijian On April 28, the Security Council issued a press statement to condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack on the van of the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi, Pakistan. It expressed the deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Governments of Pakistan and China, underlined the need to bring the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of the terrorist attack to justice, and urged all states to cooperate actively with the Governments of Pakistan and China on this matter.

As for the epidemic in China, my colleagues and I have made comments at this podium on many occasions. The Information Office of the State Council holds regular press conferences on the epidemic situation in China. I believe you may have noted the readouts and attended those press conferences. I would like to stress that the dynamic zero policy for epidemic control is in line with China’s national conditions and based on science, and has achieved good prevention and control effects that are universally recognized. In 2021, a wave of outbreaks driven by the Delta variant once spread to more than 20 provinces in China. China swiftly took prevention and control measures to effectively deal with over 30 cluster outbreaks and put them under control within 14 days, which is basically the length of an incubation period. This effectively protected the safety and health of Chinese and foreign citizens living in China.
目前，我们面对奥密克戎带来的海啸。这个病毒传播速度之快远超我们的想象。中国部分城市采取的积极应对措施可以说是已经或正在取得积极的成效。中国也为全球抗击疫情作出了重要贡献，受到了国际社会高度评价。
Now we are faced with a surge of COVID cases caused by the Omicron variant. This virus strain spreads very fast, far beyond our imagination. The active measures taken by some Chinese cities have achieved and are making positive gains as we speak. China has made important contribution to the global fight against COVID-19, which is highly commended by the international community.
