华春莹2017年1月，习近平主席首次出席世界经济论坛年会，并在开幕式上发表题为“共担时代责任，共促全球发展”的主旨演讲。习近平主席在讲话中系统阐述了中方关于经济全球化的看法和主张，发出了支持经济全球化的时代强音，在国际社会引起热烈反响。很多人都还记得当时的那些精彩论述，比如“世界经济的大海，你要还是不要，都在那儿”、“搞保护主义如同把自己关进黑屋子”，等等。习近平主席的那次主旨演讲具有里程碑意义。
Hua Chunying President first attended the World Economic Forum annual meeting in January, 2017. At the opening session, he delivered a keynote speech titled Jointly Shoulder Responsibility of Our Times, Promote Global Growth. He talked in a comprehensive manner about China's views and propositions on economic globalization and voiced strong support for economic globalization, eliciting a warm response from the international community. Many still recall his brilliant remarks. "Whether you like it or not, the global economy is the big ocean that you cannot escape from." "Pursuing protectionism is like locking oneself in a dark room." President Xi's keynote speech was indeed of monumental significance.

It is a general view of the international community that what we are facing today is similar to the situation at the beginning of 2017. As the COVID-19 pandemic is still spreading, the world economy fell into a deep recession and global challenges continuously emerge, humanity is again at a crossroads. We believe this dialogue meeting will help consolidate global consensus, rebuild mutual trust, boost cooperation, pool ideas and contribute to the resolution of global issues.

Hua Chunying Yesterday the National Bureau of Statistics released detailed information on the national economic performance in 2020, showing GDP exceeding a historic 100 trillion yuan mark. The big news captured much attention at home and abroad. The focus of major international media agencies including Reuters and AP is that against the surging COVID-19 and the worst economic recession since WWII, China's economy rapidly recovered and achieved robust growth, making the country the only major economy to register positive growth last year, with growth rate beating analyst expectations from many institutions.

This is indeed a hard-won achievement. As you've all witnessed, the year 2020 saw the Chinese nation united as one under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core in an arduous journey to first bring COVID-19 under control, resume work and production, and reverse the negative economic growth. As your first-hand experience here attests, the Chinese economy achieved a beautiful V-shaped recovery, restoring bustling construction sites, lively throngs in the streets and traffic flow under glamorous city lights. China's economic aggregate surpassed the 100 trillion yuan mark and its proportion in the world total has risen to about 17 percent from the 16.3 percent of 2019. Besides, grain output reached another record high, industrial production continued to grow, total trade volume increased against all odds, modern service industries broke new ground, consumption upgrading gathered speed, domestic investment rebounded steadily, employment far exceeded set targets, prices remained stable and residents' income increased. China is becoming a front-runner in the world economy with a bigger proportion and greater significance in terms of quality, quantity, depth and width both sector-wise and overall.

One flower doesn't bring the spring; only when the whole garden is blooming are the seasons changed. China cannot develop in isolation from the world and its development will contribute to global prosperity. China's economic growth benefits not only itself, but also the whole world. As you've noted, China not only contributed to global economic growth, but also provided much-needed supplies to other countries in their fight against COVID-19 and played a positive role in keeping the global supply and industrial chains stable. According to OECD's forecast in December 2020, China will contribute to over one third of the world economic growth in 2021. At present, China is fostering a new development pattern which will further unleash market potentials, lead to wider opening-up, and deepen international cooperation. We are convinced that China's sustained economic growth will generate more demand and opportunities for the world to realize mutual benefit.
当前，虽然疫情对世界经济的负面影响仍在显现，单边主义、保护主义不断抬头，全球产业链供应链持续受到冲击，但是我们相信，经济全球化大势不可逆转，开放合作仍是时代潮流。只要各国携手同行、团结合作，共同维护多边主义和自由贸易，推动完善更加公正合理的全球经济治理体系，积极构建开放型世界经济，世界经济一定会凤凰涅槃、焕发新生。中国将一如既往做世界和平的建设者、全球发展的贡献者、国际秩序的维护者，为世界和平与发展不懈努力。
Currently, the impact of COVID-19 on the global economy is still showing, and global supply and industrial chains are suffering from the fallout along with rising unilateralism and protectionism. However, we have faith in the irreversible trend of economic globalization, openness and cooperation. As long as all countries join hands and work together to uphold multilateralism and free trade, promote a more equitable and reasonable global economic governance system, and build an open world economy, the world economy will surely rise from the ashes and take on new vitality. China will continue to contribute to world peace and development and uphold the international order.
