The following question was raised after the press conference: The Chinese exhibition team announced it will withdraw from the Gwangju Biennale in the ROK in strong protest against the organizer’s wrongful practice related to Taiwan. The Chinese embassy in the ROK has made a statement on that. What’s your comment?
郭嘉昆中韩建交公报明确指出，大韩民国政府承认中华人民共和国政府为中国的唯一合法政府，并尊重中方只有一个中国、台湾是中国的一部分之立场。今年以来，韩方多次明确表示，坚持一个中国的立场没有变化。
Guo Jiakun The China-ROK joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations states clearly that “the government of the Republic of Korea recognizes the government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government of China and respects China’s position that there is only one China and Taiwan is part of China.” The ROK side also clearly stated on many occasions this year that its commitment to the one-China position remains unchanged.
此次韩国光州双年展主办方顽固坚持错误做法，纵容中国台湾地区使用完全不符合其身份的名称参展，公然违反一个中国原则，中方对此坚决反对，并已向韩方提出严正交涉，要求有关方面立即纠正错误做法。我们希望韩国政府恪守政治承诺，切实负起责任，以实际行动践行一个中国原则。
The organizer of the ROK Gwangju Biennale, however, has stubbornly clung to the wrongful practice, allowing China’s Taiwan region to participate under a designation that is completely incompatible with its status. This is a grave violation of the one-China principle. China is firmly opposed to this and has lodged serious representations with the ROK side, demanding that the relevant party immediately correct its wrongdoings. We hope that the ROK government will honor its political commitments, earnestly shoulder its responsibilities, and uphold the one-China principle with concrete actions.
民进党当局借文化交流、会议展览等场合搞政治操弄，进行谋“独”挑衅，用心险恶，手段卑劣，其政治图谋不会得逞。
It’s despicable for the DPP authorities to exploit occasions such as cultural exchanges, conferences and exhibitions to engage in political manipulation and make “Taiwan independence” provocations. Their political schemes are doomed to fail.
