A On December 23, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2397 in response to the DPRK's launching of an intercontinental ballistic missile in November. The resolution moderately intensifies sanctions against the DPRK. Meanwhile, it emphasizes on not inflicting adverse humanitarian impact on the DPRK people and not affecting normal economic activities and cooperation, food aid, humanitarian assistance and the activities of the diplomatic missions in the DPRK. It reaffirms the commitment to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, calls for the peaceful settlement of the issue through diplomatic and political means, supports the resumption of the Six-Party Talks and stresses that all relevant parties should take measures to ease the tensions on the Peninsula. The Chinese side hopes that all relevant parties can implement the DPRK-related resolutions of the UN Security Council, including Resolution 2397 in a comprehensive and balanced manner and promote the peaceful settlement of the Korean Peninsula-related issues.

As a close neighbor of the Korean Peninsula, the Chinese side is closely following the development of the situation on the Peninsula. China is always committed to realizing the denuclearization of the Peninsula, upholding peace and stability on the Peninsula and resolving the issue through dialogue and consultation. This represents our consistent position on dealing with issues related to the DPRK's nuclear and missile activities, including participating in the deliberations of the UN Security Council. The current situation on the Korean Peninsula is complex and sensitive. The Chinese side calls on the relevant countries to exercise restraint and make positive efforts to de-escalate the tensions on the Peninsula and properly settle the Korean Peninsula issue. We also hope that all relevant parties can give positive consideration to the "suspension for suspension" initiative and "dual track approach" proposed by China, work with China to stay committed to promoting dialogue and consultation and strive for the advancement of the denuclearization of the Peninsula and the realization of peace and stability on the Peninsula.
